Florence + The Machine have posted a new song on the internet today and not just a video of frontwoman Florence Welch cycling in a flowery frock as had been widely speculated.
Yesterday, Florence + her Twitter Machine teased, “Hello interworld, I’m out of the studio and into the sunshine! Pop over to my website at 5pm tomorrow for a peek at something very special x”
The unveiled track is a big spooky, haunting amazo-ballad entitled ‘What the Water Gave Me’ and it will appear alongside 11 other tracks on her follow-up to ‘Lungs’ when it is released in November.
The song is reportedly inspired by this painting by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and it visually sums up the song nicely – all ghostly and otherworldly and bit mental. Flo told NME “At lot of the time when I’m writing, things will just appear. I was writing the song and this book on symbolism was lying around, and it had the painting in it. It’s nice to mix the ordinary with extraordinary.”
